Urdunama: Jihad-e-Hind

As representatives of every political hue deliver speeches to seek the support of the Pakistani voter in the nation’s general elections scheduled for May, Lashkar-e-Tayiba’s ameer, Hafiz Saeed was out delivering firebrand speeches of his own as well.  Addressing the Jihad-e-Hind Conference on April 9, 2013 at LeT’s Muridke headquarters in Punjab, Hafiz Saeed declared a war on India and warned of attacks inside Indian territory.

He also blamed Pervez Musharraf for supporting the U.S.’s war in Afghanistan and acquiescing to drone attacks along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.  This is the second time since February 2013 that Hafiz Saeed has publicly called for jihad against India, while taking comfort over having “vanquished the retreating forces of America and its allies.” Excerpts of his speech, as published by Nawa-i-Waqt, follow:

Pervez Musharraf must answer for his involvement in the Lal Masjid attacks and U.S. drone operations that have resulted in the deaths of 7 lakh Afghan and 30 lakh residents of the border areas.  One can only pity Musharraf given his current state of affairs, but Pakistan is yet to learn its lessons from his misplaced policies.  Even today in Islamabad, there are people like Musharraf who, instead criticizing the U.S., India and Israel, denounce the mujahideen for being involved in “terrorism” in Pakistan.

The U.S., India and Israel are playing a dangerous game in Balochistan.  They aim to capture Gwadar so that they can control strategic routes to the Gulf and West Asia.  India must be made to pay the price for its continued occupation of Kashmir.  Pakistan is yet to avenge the losses of East Pakistan, Hyderabad (Deccan) and Junagadh.  Pakistan must also avenge the attacks on the Samjhauta Express and Babri Masjid.

Our leaders in Islamabad plan to grant India MFN status, while the Indians are conspiring with Sindh nationalists to create a Sindhudesh to further dismember Pakistan.  India’s media does a good job in covering up India’s many sins, while Pakistan’s media has done nothing to expose them.  India’s list of crimes is very long indeed.  We have incontrovertible proof of the atrocities India has committed over the years.

There are some misguided people in Lahore who have been fooled into believing that the people of Indian Punjab and Pakistani Punjab share a similar culture.  These people must think long and hard on whether this is indeed true.  We build friendships with friends, not with enemies.  Is India really our friend?  It has illegally occupied our lands.  It dams our rivers to destroy our agriculture and turn Pakistan into an arid desert.

Let India pay attention: “jihad-e-Hind” — a war against India — will be launched.  This war will be contested inside Indian territory and no one can save it from annihilation.  Even the RSS and BJP cannot save India from its fate.  The mujahideen have taken on and defeated the Americans and their allies.  India’s fate will be no different.  [نوائے وقت]

Little wonder, then, that there are now jihad-e-Hind billboards in Pakistan’s cities.

Urdunama: Saboot

On December 1, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani-Khar told news channels that while there was “no evidence” to implicate Hafiz Saeed in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, Pakistan would take action if India were to provide proof of his involvement.  A day later, Pakistan’s far-right Urdu newspaper Ummat interviewed Hafiz Saeed on 26/11, who lashed out against Ms. Khar, India and the United States, while proclaiming his innocence.  Excerpts of the interview follow:

On Ms. Khar’s statements promising action against Hafiz Saeed should India provide proof.

[If any allegations are brought forward,] we will leave the matter to the courts.  We have always opted to resolve issues via the court of law and will continue to do so. We would like to resolve all issues within the provisions of Pakistani law. We do not intend to pursue those actions that will create problems; we’re interested in solving problems, not compounding them.

[However,] it has been 4 years since the attacks in Mumbai. In these 4 years, India has been unable to provide any evidence against me in connection with the case. The documents provided by India as evidence could not stand in court and were dismissed by Lahore High Court as propaganda. A similar case was also made by the Supreme Court. A judicial commission was sent from Pakistan to India on the issue of the Mumbai attacks, and no proof of my involvement was presented to them. Despite this, Ms Khar wants to ask India to provide more evidence against me. She appears to be very eager to help India resolve the Mumbai case, but what has she done with regard to the Samjhauta Express attacks, where many Pakistanis were killed?

If Ms Khar says her government would like to resolve the Kashmir dispute through non-military means, can she tell us how successful her government has been thus far? We have about 2-3 issues with India on Kashmir, and her government has been completely unsuccessful in resolving these through non-military means. There is only one way to resolve the Kashmir dispute — jihad.

On why the U.S. pursues action against him.

U.S. allegations against me are both a conspiracy and evidence of the deepening India-U.S. relationship.  Al-hamdulillah, we have been very successful, through Difa-e-Pakistan Council, in bringing various organizations together and exposing the conspiracies of the U.S. and its ally India to the rest of the people of Pakistan. It is because of this that the U.S. and India want to silence me in any way possible.

On peace with India and the U.S.

The U.S. and India are not pursuing the interests of their people, but the interests of their own politicians. India, to this day, has not accepted Pakistan’s right to exist as an independent state. And yet our leaders go to India and grovel for trade. They want to improve trade ties with India and grant them “Most Favored Nation” status. The U.S. completely supports India in its hatred for Pakistan. The U.S. uses India in the subcontinent the same way it uses Israel in the Middle East. Both India and the U.S. are blinded by their hatred for Islam.

We are now in December. It was in December years ago that the very same India dismembered Pakistan.  Do we now seek to improve economic ties with the same country that divided Pakistan and continues to suppress Kashmiris? Every product that is exported from India to Pakistan will be tainted with the blood of Kashmiri Muslims. Our politicians do not understand that the Afghan Taliban in Afghanistan and the mujahideen in Kashmir are fighting wars for the survival of Pakistan.

India unleashes state-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir, and dams rivers flowing into Pakistan; and yet our government wants to grant them “Most Favored Nation” status. If our leaders are incapable of empathizing with the mujahideen in Kashmir, fine.  But they must, at the very least, not get in their way. [روزنامہ امّت]

Tehreek-e-Azadi-e-Kashmir

Pakistan’s military-jihadi-complex stokes the flames.

Nawa-i-waqt reports yesterday that the who’s-who of Pakistan’s military jihadi complex was present at the September 27 rally in Islamabad in “support of Jammu and Kashmir’s independence.”  Let the name not fool anyone, the Tehreek-e-Azadi-e-Kashmir is a  Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) front.  It has brought its road show to several towns in PoK, including Mirpur, Kotli and Muzafarabad, before the Islamabad rally.

Concurrent to Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi ratcheting up “Kashmir” at the U.N. General Assembly, the MJC has pulled out all the stops to further stoke flames in the Valley.  The TAK is not an irrelevant rabble of jihadi groups.  It includes among its ranks, a sitting member of the Pakistani Senate — Professor Sajid Mir (PML-N).

Those present in the rally included Munawar Hasan (Jamaat-e-Islami amir), Sajid Mir (Senator representing PML-N), Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki (LeT/JuD), Samiul Haq (Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam), Hafiz Saifullah Mansoor (JuD), Ghulam Mohammad Safi (Hurriyat Conference — Tehreek-e-Hurriyat-Jammu Kashmir) and Hafiz Khalid Waleed (JuD, son-in-law to Hafiz Saeed).

Excerpts of the article are included below:

The Islamabad rally supported by the Huriyat and religious parties claimed that Kashmiris were fighting Pakistan’s war, while Pakistan’s civilian administration was seeking dialog with India.  If Kashmir could have been resolved through diplomacy, it would have already been resolved through a UN referendum.  But India has labelled Kashmiris’ fundamental fight for freedom, “terrorism.”

Jamaat-e-Islami’s amir, Munawar Hasan claimed that Kashmiris were fighting Pakistan’s war, while Pakistan’s leaders were yearning for dialog with India.  Senator Sajid Mir stated that the streets of Srinagar are drenched in the blood of Kashmiris, but Pakistan’s leaders have remained silent.  He said that it was the responsibility of the Islamic world to reveal India’s violation of human rights and its cowardliness to the rest of the world.  Samiul Haq stated that Kashmir’s independence cannot be obtained through dialog with India, but only through jihad.  Several JuD leaders claimed that the Indian army is trying to portray itself through a façade of sanctimony in Kashmir.
